Sonarchy is an app for finding and playing internet radio stations and podcasts, with optional recording and cross-device sync. This policy explains what information the app and its backend collect, how that information is used, and the choices you have. We aim to collect as little as possible.
Using Sonarchy without an account
You can browse the station directory and play stations without signing in. Creating an account is optional and only enables cross-device features — keeping your saved stations, recordings, and votes in sync. If you never sign in, we do not associate your activity with an identity.
Information we collect
Account information
If you choose to sign in, we store your email address, your display name, and a unique account identifier in our own sign-in system, which runs on our servers. We use these to identify your account and sync your content across devices.
Your content
Stations you save or add, podcasts you subscribe to, recordings you create, audio files you upload, microphone recordings you make, and votes you cast are stored on our backend so they are available across your devices. To let you hand playback from one device to another, we also store what you were last playing, your position in it, and a name for the device you were using.
Plan usage
We count how much you listen through our servers and how much you record each month — as totals of time and data, not a history of what you played — so we can apply the limits of your plan. If you subscribe, our payment provider tells us your subscription status (active, expired, and the plan you bought). We never receive or store your card details.
Diagnostics and crash reports
To find and fix problems, the app sends crash reports and error diagnostics to our error-monitoring provider. These reports can include the app version, device model, operating-system version, and technical details about the error. They are used solely to diagnose and improve the app and are not used to advertise to you.
Feedback you send
If you use the in-app feedback form, we receive the message you write and any contact details you choose to include, along with basic context such as the app version and platform, so we can understand and respond to your report.
Server logs
Our backend keeps standard operational logs (such as IP address, request metadata, and timestamps) for security, abuse prevention, and reliability.
How we use information
- To provide the app's features and sync your content across your devices.
- To diagnose crashes and errors and improve stability and performance.
- To respond to feedback and support requests.
- To keep the service secure and prevent abuse.
We do not sell your data
We do not sell or rent your personal information. We do not show third-party advertising and we do not use advertising trackers or sell data to data brokers.
Service providers
We rely on a small number of providers that process data on our behalf:
- Google — cloud hosting, database storage, and server logs, and delivery of account emails such as sign-in verification and password resets.
- Sentry — crash and error reporting.
- RevenueCat, with Stripe — subscription management and payment processing for Sonarchy Plus.
- Google and Apple — if you choose to sign in with them; they tell us your email address and a stable identifier for your account.
Our sign-in and account system is software we run ourselves on the hosting above — your account details are not handed to a separate identity company.
Audio is streamed from third-party radio stations and podcast publishers, and our station directory comes from the public Radio Browser database. When you play a stream or open a link, that third party may receive your request (including your IP address) and is governed by its own privacy practices. Some stations are relayed through our servers for device compatibility; in that case the station sees our server rather than you.
Your local network
To play to Sonos and similar speakers, the app looks for compatible players on the network you're connected to. That discovery happens on your device; we don't receive a list of your devices, and on iOS the system asks your permission before the app can do it.
Data retention
Account information and your saved content are retained while your account exists. Crash and diagnostic reports are retained for a limited period by our monitoring provider and then deleted. Server logs are rotated and retained only as long as needed for security and operations.
Your choices
- You can use the app without signing in.
- You can sign out at any time from the app.
- You can delete your account and its data from inside the app — Settings → Delete Account. This removes your account, saved stations, podcast subscriptions, recordings (including the audio files), and your sign-in identity. Children
Sonarchy is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS, and access to backend systems is restricted. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page.
